Government Land for Sale
You might be surprised to find out that the government sells several different types of land to individuals. Most people know you can buy land that is been foreclosed on, but they do not know that it is the government that sells these and other types of land.
Foreclosed pieces of land owned by government agencies are often bought by companies and then sold to individuals. These parcels can usually be found on websites, in newspapers and in advertising publications. Some of these pieces of land can be used for development or farming.
In addition to foreclosed land, there is land the government views as excess to the publics' and Government's needs or more suited to private ownership. These pieces of land are sometimes offered for sale by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). By law, these lands sell for no less than fair market value.
The types of land that government sells are varied. Some may be in the desert while are others are found in rural areas. While some parcels of just a few acres, there are some that are several hundred acres in size. Most of these properties are found in the western states, but there are also some available government properties in southern and mid-western states.
